Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification (as on 02.03.2026)

  • 10th Pass (Matriculation/SSC/SSLC) from a recognized Board, or
  • ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate from a recognized institute, or
  • Equivalent qualification, or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

Selection Process

The recruitment process consists of four successive stages:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates using a scribe).

Total Questions: 100 (Each of 1 mark)

Exam Pattern:

  • Objective type with multiple choices.
  • Questions available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Section-wise distribution may vary slightly in actual exam.

Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Shortlisting: 3 times the total vacancies (may vary) based on CBT merit

Nature: Qualifying in nature (mandatory to pass, marks not counted towards final merit).

Important PET Notes:

  • Two-stage test comprising weight carrying followed by a running test, conducted after a recovery gap.
  • Candidates failing the weight-carrying test will be eliminated (no running test).
  • Weight carrying involves lifting sandbag (without handle) from waist-height bench & carrying without dropping.
  • Candidates responsibility to ensure medical fitness for PET – Railways not responsible for injuries.

Exemptions from PET:

  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) – must pass medical examination
  • Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA)
  • Ex-Servicemen (ExSM)

Pregnant Candidates: Must submit self-declaration. If pregnant, PET deferred till 6 weeks post-confinement. Vacancy kept reserved.

Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)

  • Shortlisting: 1:1 ratio of vacancies based on CBT merit + PET qualification.
  • Candidates must produce original certificates.
  • No additional time given – absence leads to candidature cancellation.
  • Scanned copies to be uploaded before DV at https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv
  • Certificates must be in English/Hindi (translated version required otherwise).
  • Candidates must bring a hard copy of the duly signed application form.

Stage 4: Medical Examination (ME)

  • Conducted by Railway Medical Authorities.
  • Must pass requisite medical fitness test as per IRMM.
  • Visual acuity standards strictly enforced.
  • Medical appeal option available (one final opportunity on payment).
  • Candidates found medically unsuitable will NOT be given alternative appointment

Final Merit & Selection

  • Based on CBT marks (after normalization, if applicable).
  • Subject to PET qualification, DV clearance, and medical fitness.
  • Post/Railway allotment as per candidate’s preference, merit, medical fitness, and vacancy.
  • In the event of a tie, the older candidate shall be ranked higher. If the age is also the same, ranking will be decided in alphabetical order of the candidate’s name (A to Z).
  • No right to appointment – RRB/RRC only recommends, appointment by Railway Administration.

How to Apply Online

  • Candidates must first sign up on the RRB website to create a username & password.
  • After sign-up, Select CEN 09/2025, Choose ONE RRB/Railway Zone (CANNOT be changed)
  • Fill personal details, educational qualifications
  • Select post preferences within chosen Railway
  • Choose examination language (English/Hindi/Regional)
  • Capture live photograph using webcam/mobile camera
  • Upload scanned signature (JPG/JPEG, 30-49 KB, black ink, running handwriting)
  • Upload SC/ST certificate (if claiming free travel pass)
  • Verify all details carefully
  • Select payment mode: Internet Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI
  • Pay Rs. 500/- (General/EWS/OBC-NCL Male) or Rs. 250/- (SC/ST/PwBD/Female/ExSM/Transgender/Minorities/EBC) & Complete payment.
  • After successful payment, the application is considered complete, Receive confirmation via SMS and email.
  • Keep download & save final application form.
  • Keep a downloaded/printed copy for documentation.
  • Modification (if required): Window: 05.03.2026 to 14.03.2026. Login & modify details (except Create Account info & Chosen Railway). Pay Rs. 250/- per modification
