SSB Constable Tradesman & Driver Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 827 Posts

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has released an official notification for the recruitment of 827 Constable posts. Candidates who have completed 10th Pass, Diploma, or ITI are eligible to apply for these vacancies. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for SSB Constable Tradesman and Driver Recruitment 2026 must meet the required eligibility criteria, which include nationality, age limit, educational qualification, trade experience, and medical/physical standards. All eligibility conditions must be fulfilled on or before the closing date of the online application.

Nationality

• For Constable Trades (Washerman, Barber, Water Carrier, Waiter, Tailor, Gardener, Cobbler):
  The candidate must be a citizen of India.
• For Constable Posts (Driver, Veterinary, Carpenter, Nursing Orderly):
  Normally, only Indian citizens are eligible for appointment. However, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan may also be considered, subject to permission from the Central Government of India.

Salary/Stipend

All SSB Constable Tradesman, Driver, Veterinary, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly posts are placed under Pay Level-3 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix. The salary ranges from ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 per month.

In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will also receive various allowances and benefits as per Central Government rules, including:

• Dearness Allowance (DA)
• Ration Money Allowance (RMA)
• House Rent Allowance (HRA)
• Other admissible allowances

Furthermore, newly appointed candidates will be covered under the Defined Contributory Pension Scheme (National Pension System – NPS) or the Unified Pension Scheme, as applicable for new Central Government employees.

Selection Process

The selection process for SSB Constable Tradesman and Driver Recruitment 2026 consists of several stages. Candidates must qualify each stage as per SSB rules and standards to be considered for final appointment.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates applying for the posts of Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly must undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

• Male Candidates: 4.8 km race in 24 minutes
• Female Candidates: 2.4 km race in 18 minutes

Note: Ex-Servicemen are exempted from the PET, but they must appear for all other stages of the selection process.

2. Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates who qualify the PET will be called for the Physical Standard Test (PST). During this stage:

• Height and chest measurements (for male candidates) will be checked.
• Measurements must meet the minimum standards prescribed by SSB according to category and region.
• Candidates who fail to meet the required standards will be disqualified.

3. Written Examination

Qualified candidates will appear for an objective-type written examination conducted as per the SSB exam pattern. Detailed information about the exam scheme will be available in the official notification or on the official website.

4. Trade / Skill Test

Candidates applying for Tradesman posts will undergo a practical trade test to assess their relevant skills.
For the Driver post, candidates will have to appear for a driving and vehicle maintenance test.

5. Document Verification & Medical Examination

In the final stage, candidates must present their original documents, including educational certificates, identity proof, and category certificates. After successful verification, candidates will undergo a medical examination as per SSB medical standards.

Age Limit

The cut-off date for determining age and other eligibility criteria will be the last date for submission of online applications, which is 30 days from the date of publication of the notification in Employment News.

Post-wise Age Limit

• Constable (Veterinary): 18 to 27 years
• Constable (Driver) – Male: 18 to 27 years
• Constable (Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter): 18 to 23 years
• Constable (Carpenter): 18 to 25 years
• Constable (Nursing Orderly): 18 to 27 years

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation will be provided to reserved and special category candidates as per Government of India rules:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of the actual military service rendered from the candidate’s age

Additionally, departmental candidates (Central Government employees) and certain special categories, such as domiciles of Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh and dependents of 1984 riot victims, are eligible for age relaxation as per the prescribed government norms.
